DYOR
Do Your Own Research — a reminder that individual investors are responsible for their own due diligence.
DYOR (Do Your Own Research) is a widely used disclaimer in crypto culture, reminding users not to blindly follow investment advice from influencers, Twitter threads, or Discord groups, but to independently verify claims and assess risk.
A DYOR process for a new DeFi protocol might include: reading the whitepaper and smart contract audit report, checking the team's track record, understanding the tokenomics and vesting schedule, assessing the competitive landscape, and testing the product with a small amount of capital.
The phrase has also been criticised as a way for promoters to disclaim responsibility for content that pushes highly speculative or fraudulent projects. 'Do your own research' is sound advice, but it does not absolve others of responsibility for spreading misinformation.
